Dan Michaud - Gaffer

Having had a keen eye for photography since I was quite young, I was inspired to go to film school and learn the process of film-making. Taking advantage of a work experience opportunity offered by one of my lecturers, I found myself on a commercial, assisting in the lighting department.

The better part of two decades has passed, and apart from a few stints behind the lens, I have been focusing, diffusing and cutting lights on all sorts of subjects, in all sorts of locations, mainly around northern NSW and Queensland.

My experience ranges from the small production with basic lighting setups, to the multi-studio, big-budget international movies. From music clips with artist like Powderfinger, Eskimo Joe and Kasey Chambers, to big overseas productions such as Narnia, Scooby Doo, Ghost Ship and Terra Nova. I’ve had stretches on television series like Pacific Drive, Flipper and Sea Patrol and worked on countless commercials. Throw in some documentaries with SBS, HTV(UK) and NHK (Japan), some corporate, live and reality television such as X-Factor (UK), and I have covered nearly all genres in film and television lighting. I am fortunate to have worked for a wide spectrum of very talented Directors of Photography, in all manner of situations, lighting for each with their own individual styles.

Marty Evans- Gaffer

Hi I'm Marty I started at Channel  9  in Brisbane in 1981 as a wet behind the ears junior lighting tech & left there nearly ten years later as a senior A grade lighting tech & have been freelanceing in film & TV ever since, ( with a couple of diversions ), 1 as the rental prep manager for Panavision Lighting pre Panalux, at the Oxenford office which I help'd open & estsablish & more recently running my own garden maintenance landscpeing business. However the call of film & TV was too strong & I've now returned to the business I love. 

Along the way I've worked on hundreds of TV commercials, either as gaffer or best boy, both huge international jobs & tiny local ones & everything in between. Countless music video's, corporates & doco's, as well as my fair share of drama, films, etc. Was best boy then gaffer on the first series of Pacific Drive, gaffer on 2 eps' of Under the Skin for SBS, 2nd unit gaffer on Tales of the South Seas, as well as various roles on Stealth, Pitch Black, BeastMaster, He Died with a Felafel In his hand, Cyber Girl, & more recently Sea Patrol & Slide. I'm very excited about the possability's of being associated with L & M and very much look forward to assisting you in any way I can on your next project.

David ‘Rowdy’ Cane - Gaffer/Grip

“I heard a gaffer buddy of mine explained to an extra one time:

"Outside there's a big box on a truck. It's full of light. The light runs through these hoses and shoots out of the fixtures.  My job is to make sure a kink doesn't develop in the hose 'cause it will swell up and explode, and light will go everywhere!"”

I commenced work in the Queensland film and television industry in 2000 as a generator operator on a U.S. tele-movie.

Since then I have worked as a freelancer around Australia working on all forms of production within the industry including feature films, television series, music video clips, documentaries and many, many television commercials in various positions within lighting.   In 2004, I started working full-time for Panavision Lighting (Panalux) on the Gold Coast.   As a Rentals Supervisor, I became familiar with the “ins-and-outs” of all lighting fixtures used in motion picture lighting from a “Redhead” to “Lightning strikes”, “Softsuns” and underwater lighting. My ambition to travel overseas then led me to work at Lee Lighting (Panalux) at the Pinewood Film Studios in London where I was a Supervisor within the computer barcoding and inventory department.

In 2006, when I returned to Oz, I renewed my freelance career and commenced running a lighting and gripping package with Light & Motion.  Although, I still freelance and operate under my own entity, Light & Motion has combined the experience of numerous technicians to work under the one umbrella providing the Television Commercial Industry of Queensland a great value for money and incredibly flexible production resource!
